The University community recorded zero new COVID-19 cases Sunday as the number of cases continues to decline from the spike in mid-February. Six new cases were recorded Thursday and four Friday.

The University recorded 108 new COVID-19 cases Thursday through Sunday, bringing the total number of cases since Jan. 1 to 613. Of these cases, 276 cases are currently active. The current seven-day average for new cases is 36.14 cases per day, the highest seven-day average ever since the tracker began reporting cases Aug. 17.

The University launched a newly designed COVID-19 dashboard today, which now includes percent positivity rate and weekly averages among the statistics. The current overall seven-day average positivity rate in the University community is 0.48 percent — the seven-day average for students is 0.44 percent while the seven-day average for faculty and staff is 0.73 percent.

Virginia cross-country completed its regular season after competing at the 2020 ACC Championships Friday at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The men’s team placed fourth with 92 points while the women’s team placed seventh with 205 points.

Virginia cross country continued its season Wednesday at the Wolfpack Invite in Cary, N.C. After impressive performances at the Virginia Invite, the men’s team placed first once again at this week’s meet while the women’s team secured third place.

Virginia women’s lacrosse lost to Duke 16-10 Saturday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C. The No. 12 Cavaliers (5-3, 0-2 ACC) fought valiantly against the No. 23 Blue Devils (5-3, 1-1 ACC), but Duke ran away with the game in the final minutes.

No. 7 men’s squash won the Potter Cup Consolation Final Sunday — their first-ever team appearance in the A division of the College Squash Association Team Championships. The Cavaliers (19-5) finished the tournament in fifth place.

Virginia women’s lacrosse lost to No. 1 North Carolina Saturday afternoon at home in its first match of conference play. While the Cavaliers (4-2, 0-1 ACC) held on offensively for most of the game, the Tar Heels (5-0, 1-0 ACC) had a late run that ultimately secured their 18-12 win.

Virginia women’s lacrosse lost 13-12 to Richmond in the team’s home opener Wednesday evening. Despite a 5-0 run late in the game, No. 7 Cavaliers (4-1, 0-0 ACC) trailed the Spiders (5-0, 0-0 SoCon) for most of the match. Towards the end of two scoreless overtime periods, the Spiders scored with just six seconds left to beat the Cavaliers for the first time in over 10 years.

Virginia women’s lacrosse had a big weekend, beating two teams on the road. The No. 8 Cavaliers (3-0, 0-0 ACC) beat No. 20 Stanford (1-2, 0-0 PAC-12) 12-11 Friday and then defeated California (0-2, 0-0 PAC-12) 17-7 Sunday afternoon.

Virginia women’s lacrosse returns to the turf — ranked No. 9 nationally — following a 13-7 season in 2019 that ended in a tough loss in the national quarterfinals. The Cavaliers are led by Coach Julie Myers, who is going into her 25th year at the position and has both played and coached for championship-winning Virginia teams.
