The University Board of Visitors Finance Committee will be asked to approve tuition increases for the 2018-19 academic year at its meeting this Thursday. According to agenda materials outlining proposed increases in undergraduate tuition rates, the Board will consider an average increase of of 3.3 percent for in-state students and 3.9 percent for out-of-state students.

Newly-formed plans to construct a softball stadium for the women’s varsity softball team at Lambeth Field have proven to be controversial, as some students and local residents say they believe the University has excluded them from the planning process for the proposed project. The University’s Board of Visitors will be discussing the plans — which are in the early stages of development — at a meeting Thursday.

After two hard ciders, two margaritas and an estimated eight drinks later, rising second-year College student Jessica Nelson had consumed enough alcohol to black out. Nelson’s friend, Audrey, who was also a rising second-year College student, found her unconscious, unresponsive and surrounded by a pool of vomit in the stairwell of the apartment where they had been pregaming together.

The Department of Justice has appointed former FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III, a 1973 alumnus of the University Law School, to serve as special counsel to oversee the investigation into Russian tampering in the 2016 presidential election and the country’s alleged ties to President Donald Trump’s campaign. The appointment was announced on Wednesday.

The University’s Black Student Alliance released a statement Monday condemning flyers featuring old tweets from Charlottesville Vice Mayor Wes Bellamy and images of Robert E. Lee as a statue holding a Confederate flag, which were posted on the windows of the Multicultural Student Center, LGBTQ Center and Media Activities Center in Newcomb Hall, as well as the former location of Eddy’s Tavern, late Saturday night.

Student candidates spent less than half of what they were anticipating on recent University elections, according to the final campaign expenditure report released by the University Board of Elections Monday. In an interim campaign expenditure report, candidates had anticipated spending a total of nearly $6,800. The final expenditure report, however, shows candidates actually spent $3,343.64.
