Israel Fest, a joint collaboration between Hoos for Israel and Brody Jewish Center, was held for the first time in Lambeth Field on Friday. The festival is a celebration of Israeli culture and included attractions for attendees such as a live camel for attendees to pet and take pictures with.

Ragged Mountain Running Shop, a well-known family-owned business on the Corner that sells gear for runners, celebrated its 35th anniversary last Friday. Opened in January 1982, Ragged Mountain is the oldest running store in Virginia.

An open discussion with the design team for the memorial for enslaved laborers to will be built on Grounds met with the University community Monday. The memorial will commemorate the enslaved laborers who built the University and who have remained largely hidden from the historical narrative in the surrounding area.

The University is opening a satellite campus in 2021 as part of a collaboration with Inova Fairfax Hospital. The new campus is expected to host 30-50 faculty members in addition to research teams and medical students.

As a swing state, Virginia has been a focal point throughout the entire 2016 presidential process. Virginia has voted Republican in every election between 1968 and 2004, only to switch and vote Democratic in 2008 and 2012. That change came when the President Barack Obama was up for election — beating both the 2008 Republican candidate John McCain and the 2012 Republican candidate Mitt Romney. The Democratic Party won those races by 52.6 percent to 46.3 percent in 2008 and 51.2 percent to 47.3 percent in 2012.

University students and faculty were part of the 66.5 million people who tuned in to watch Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and Republican nominee Donald Trump participate in the second presidential debate Sunday. The debate, moderated by both ABC Chief Global Affairs Correspondent and co-anchor Martha Raddatz and CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, was held at Washington University in St. Louis.
