Early Saturday morning, hundreds of runners will participate in the 24th Annual Fourth Year 5K. The race provides participants with more than just friendly competition. It aims to promote safe drinking habits on the day of the last home football game, when the “fourth-year fifth,” the consumption of a metric fifth of alcohol, traditionally takes place.

Commerce graduate student Chip Grossman appeared to have it all as a freshman at Colby College. He achieved success on the lacrosse field and in the social sphere, but still faced stress and anxiety. After the death of his teammate, Grossman found himself in a dark place. He learned of his former teammate’s interest in meditation and began attending sessions himself.

The 2015 Lockn’ Festival will take place Sept. 10 through 13 in Arrington, Virginia. Started in 2013, the festival centers on musical collaborations and improvisational acts.

Fourth-year College student Dylan Fogarty does not resemble the first year who arrived on Grounds in August of 2011. An admittedly quiet kid in high school, Fogarty has become a standout member of the Class of 2015.

With fall quickly approaching in Charlottesville, many University students hope to explore the Blue Ridge Mountains in between football games and mounting school work. With 500 miles of hiking trails, Shenandoah National Park is an obvious choice for students, but the George Washington National Forest offers alternative loops for ambitious hikers. Outdoors Club President Joe Gibson, a fourth-year College student, and Outdoors Club Community Service Committee member John Franklin, a second-year Engineering student, offered their advice for standout hikes in and around the Charlottesville area.
