The U.Va. experience is one that stays with you forever. I don’t just say that as a recent U.Va. grad, but as a grad who has returned to Grounds to pursue a graduate degree here — a double Wahoo. In all honesty, I moved back to Charlottesville in August thinking I was going to experience two more years of the first three and a half I spend as an undergraduate. I could not have been more incorrect.

For my love of trashy romances, my inclination to cry over a sad song or great ending to a book, and my affinity for handwritten cards and thank-you notes, some might call me sentimental. But these saccharine tendencies end where my pen hits paper. I’ve always had an irrational fear of my own words — having my own thoughts, feelings and ideas written out actually terrifies me. This is why I spent four years on The Cavalier Daily staff in news writing and editing positions: no feelings, just objective, hardcore (okay, sometimes soft-core) journalism. Of the hundreds of articles I have written for this paper, not a word has been about myself.

Fourth-year College student Hunter Smith died Wednesday, the Office of the Dean of Students has announced. A University press release stated the cause of death was unconfirmed, however, University Police responded to a suicide at 583 Brandon Avenue — Bice apartments — that day.

Student leaders responded to a statement issued Friday by Rolling Stone magazine, in which managing editor Will Dana apologized to readers for "discrepancies" in an article published last month detailing the alleged gang rape in Sept. 2012 of a then-first year student Jackie by at least one member of the University chapter of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.

The University chapter of Phi Kappa Psi released a statement Friday saying an internal investigation has found several inconsistencies in the report of an alleged gang rape at the fraternity house in Sept. 2012 detailed in a Rolling Stone article published two weeks ago.

The Inter-Fraternity Council governing board is currently working to create a set of policy reforms to submit to University President Teresa Sullivan by Dec. 31. The proposed changes must be approved before fraternities can participate in rush events in the spring, according to IFC President Tommy Reid, a fourth-year College student.

The Board of Visitors met Tuesday in a special session to address ramifications of the Rolling Stone article and resulting protests against sexual assault on Grounds. Student leaders played a key role in the meeting, offering promises for change and suggestions for University policies.

Second-year College student Peter D’Agostino died Thursday afternoon from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police responded to the incident at 1309 Wertland Street at 2:08 p.m., when the suicide was reported by D’Agostino’s roommate.

Update 2:25 p.m.: Phi Kappa Psi fraternity released a statement Thursday saying the organization had voluntarily suspended its Fraternal Organization Agreement."This is a serious matter for the criminal justice system and the university investigative process and we will cooperate quickly, openly, and honestly in any forthcoming investigation that may be conducted," the statement read. The Medical Examiner’s Office in Richmond positively identified the remains found last Saturday as belonging to second-year College student Hannah Graham. A search team from the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office found the remains last Saturday on an abandoned property off Old Lynchburg Road in an area near Walnut Creek Park, about 11 miles southwest of the University.
