Third-year College student Truman Brody-Boyd was elected Sunday to serve as the next Chair of the Jewish Leadership Council. He will succeed fourth-year Nursing student Talia Sion in the role. Members of the executive board for the 2018-19 school year were also elected.

The stairs between Newcomb Hall and Brown College reopened March 21 after five months of construction. The renovation sought to repair water leaks in the stairs and was accompanied by a temporary wooden walkway beside the stairs for daily use. The crew originally aimed to finish construction by last December, but moved its goal to March 26 after inclement weather setbacks.

Students gathered to hear Marcus L. Martin, University vice president and chief officer for diversity and equity, speak about his lifelong experiences in the context of his career and leadership in a talk at the Multicultural Student Center Monday. The event was hosted by the MSC as part of the “Things I Wish I Knew” series — an initiative for faculty to share personal experiences on their identity and background, their career path or field of work or another topic of their choosing.

Despite being slated for completion by the first week of December, construction on the stairs outside Newcomb Hall is expected to come to an end later this month.

University President Teresa Sullivan announced a new President’s Commission on the University in the Age of Segregation Feb. 5 as part of the continuing celebration of U.Va.’s Bicentennial. Sullivan introduced the commission during the School of Law’s commemoration of the University’s first black student, Gregory Swanson.
