The City of Charlottesville and the County of Albemarle have completed the first phase of the Disproportionate Minority Study — a multi-disciplinary project that examined how minorities are treated within the criminal justice system — to find that black individuals are overrepresented at every point in the local criminal justice system.

The Lighting of the Lawn Committee, made up from students in all the Class Councils, has decided upon several changes to be made in order to make the Lighting of the Lawn a more accessible and inclusive experience for all students.

The Student Council Buildings and Grounds Committee has designed and installed interpretive panels at the Gooch-Dillard Cemetery, in recognition of 70 unmarked gravesites of enslaved laborers. In a tweet announcing the decision, Student Council explained how the installation was “a part of the University’s continued efforts to acknowledge its complicity in the darkest chapter of our nation’s history.”

The introduction of food trucks and a renovation to the C3 convenience store have been put in place to offer students living in the Lambeth Field Apartments an increased variety and convenience of food options. El Tako Nako began visiting Lambeth last Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m., with the potential for food trucks becoming a permanent weekly fixture in the on-Grounds residence area.
