The University has a population of 23,800 students. This includes 16,000 undergraduate students across seven schools and 7,800 graduate and professional students across 12 graduate and professional schools. Graduate and professional students account for roughly one-third of the University's entire student population on Grounds.

At least one person was wounded after a “trespasser incident” with a freight train late Saturday night, according to a representative of the Charlottesville Fire Department and a Twitter statement by Amtrak Northeast. The individual is a male U.Va. student, according to a representative of the Charlottesville Police Department. He is presently recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

A robbery was reported near the Corner Wednesday night, according to a University-wide Timely Warning alert. The male victim reported to University Police two men approached him at 1400 University Avenue — near the intersection of 14th St. and University Ave. — and one physically attacked him before the two individuals fled the scene.

U.Va. paid $200,000 to settle a discrimination lawsuit brought by former University administrator Betsy Ackerson, according to information obtained in an open records request by The Cavalier Daily. The suit was dismissed with prejudice from the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia last month, meaning both parties had agreed that the matter is resolved.

The Charlottesville Downtown Mall has reopened following restrictions on pedestrian access for the one-year anniversary weekend of the deadly Unite the Right rally, the City announced Sunday afternoon. The move came after tense confrontations between protesters and state police throughout the afternoon, as well as four arrests.

Originally planned for the North Plaza of the Rotunda, the protest quickly relocated to the grass triangle beside Brooks Hall and eventually moved down Rugby Road.

Marc Short — a new Miller Center senior fellow and President Donald Trump’s former legislative affairs director — will be paid $48,000 for his one-year commitment to the Center, according to a letter outlining the details of his appointment. Short’s hiring has come under criticism in recent weeks, with two history professors resigning from their Miller Center positions in protest and over 3,700 people signing an online petition discouraging the Center from hiring Short.

The Charlottesville Police Department arrested at least seven individuals Friday night while a group of 20 to 30 activists marched through Downtown Charlottesville in protest of the conviction of Corey Long — a counterprotester at the Unite the Right rally last August who used an aerosol can as a makeshift flamethrower towards white nationalists shouting racial slurs at him.

One person has been declared dead after a vehicle was caught in a flash flood Wednesday night and swept down Ivy Creek, Albemarle County Police announced Thursday. A second occupant of the same vehicle, which was swept away when the creek flooded near Old Ballard Road, remains missing.

After The Daily Progress published an article Friday reporting that three prominent bars on the Corner — Boylan Heights, the Biltmore and The Virginian — require University student identification cards for admission after 11 p.m. along with a state-issued identification proving the individual is of legal drinking age, the bars’ owners have published statements claiming the bars do not have rules against nonstudents.
