Multiple changes are being considered for the Echols Scholars Program following a report by a committee that reviewed the program. After documents on the potential changes started circulating among Echols Scholars last week, the recommendations have been met with concerns from some current scholars in the College’s undergraduate honors program.

A new multipurpose student space at 1515 University Avenue is set to open Friday at noon. The updated venue on the Corner is the result of $4.9 million in renovations to the building formerly home to the Student Book Store. The University Programs Council has organized the grand opening, which will include a Student Council transition ceremony, crafts, a performance by Grant Frazier and late-night breakfast.

Twenty-three nonprofit, journalist and civic leaders from 11 countries in the Middle East and North Africa arrived in Charlottesville Feb. 18 to participate in the Leaders for Democracy Fellowship. The University’s Center for Politics Global Perspectives on Democracy Program operates the fellowship in Charlottesville.

Seventy-three percent of students are not aware of the plan to construct new on-Grounds student housing on Brandon Avenue, according to a survey conducted by The Cavalier Daily, in partnership with a faculty advisory committee and the Center for Survey Research. The poll asked questions about students’ opinions and knowledge regarding the plan.

It’s been two years since Sabrina Rubin Erdely’s article “A Rape on Campus” was published by Rolling Stone. The article — which has since been debunked — told the story of then-student Jackie, who was allegedly gang-raped at the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity house in Sept. 2012, and said she received little help from the University or her friends.

The Eliminate the Hate campaign began Monday at 12 p.m. with a Flash Slam on the steps of Old Cabell Hall. Student performers were invited to share their experiences of dealing with hate speech and bias.

The Eliminate the Hate campaign began Monday with a silent demonstration on the steps of Old Cabell Hall. The demonstration was streamed through Facebook Live, and students held hand-made posters with messages condemning hate speech. Over 350 students volunteered for 15-minutes shifts from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
