Ragged Mountain Running Shop is currently organizing a marathon, dubbed the C-VILLE-athon, to take place over a year. Co-sponsored with the C-Ville Weekly, the C-VILLE-athon will consist of 34 non-profit races held around Charlottesville, to benefit local causes. Events include the Fourth Year 5K and the Charlottesville Ten Miler.

Fairfax County Schools Superintendent Karen Garza proposed a budget Thursday night allocating $70 million to fund teacher pay raises. The budget also makes $55 million in cuts through reduced costs for health insurance, power and fuel and employee turnover.

The Medical Center initiated a new plan to expand its emergency department, which the Board of Visitors will discuss Thursday at the Medical Center Operating Committee meeting. The expansion would be funded by the Medical Center’s operating revenue.

A proposed plan to clean the Chesapeake Bay will increase the body of water's economic benefits by $22.5 billion, according to a report released Monday by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. The improvement plan would increase the total economic benefit of the bay to $129.7 billion.
