University students hoping to voice their ideas about the future of social messaging will now be able to, thanks to a partnership unveiled Monday night between the University’s OpenGrounds initiative and national communications company Vonage. OpenGrounds aims to bring together thinkers and researchers in a studio space on the Corner.

Passion Pit’s new album Gossamer , released on iTunes July 23, is the Massachusetts-based band’s best studio album to date. Although the singles on this latest record aren’t all that much better than those from the rest of Passion Pit’s repertoire, the album as a whole works in a way Manners and Chunk of Change couldn’t quite manage.

MTV’s The Inbetweeners is an abomination. I am the kind of person who believes remakes should be outlawed (with the exception of 3:10 to Yuma because … Russell Crowe), especially in the English-to-American direction. British shows that have been adapted for an American audience typically have more attractive actors — MTV’s Skins, SyFy’s Being Human, and NBC’s The Office, among others — but MTV’s newest creation doesn’t even have that going for it. There is literally nothing good about this show.

Some students are concerned that policy changes implemented by the University in the two and a half years since former University student Yeardley Love was murdered by her ex-boyfriend George Huguely haven’t been as effective at making the community aware of the signs of relationship abuse as administrators intended.

Martha Jefferson Hospital’s breast cancer treatment program was recognized this fall for its exemplary performance in treatment and care of breast cancer patients. For the first time in the hospital’s history last month it received a three-year certification from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.

Students unveiled a September 11 memorial at a ceremony Sunday in Newcomb Hall. The memorial includes a 15-inch piece of steel from the World Trade Center acquired by the Student Association of Firefighters, EMTs and Rescue Technicians.

Student Council received a $22,000 grant from the Jefferson Trust to launch the Entrepreneurial Innovations Committee, which will be geared toward fostering students' entrepreneurial skills, graduate student and chair of the representative body Siddartha Pailla said in an email to Council leadership Saturday. Student Council President Dan Morrison said the committee will focus more on learning about entrepreneurship than actual business-oriented activities.

The Republican-led Virginia House of Delegates yesterday voted 64-34 to advance a 'personhood' bill, which would give full personhood rights to a fertilized egg at the moment of conception. The action sets the stage for a final House vote on the legislation today. If the House passes the bill, the Senate will review and vote on it.
