The University Judiciary Committee held its last general body meeting of the semester Sunday night. Kevin Warshaw, a third-year Engineering student and newly elected UJC chair, asked Andy Petters, assistant dean of students at the University, to talk to members about how Housing and Residence Life decides to refer students for trial by the UJC.

Third-year College student Robert Andrews was elected Tuesday evening as the College Republicans Chairman for the 2018-19 academic year. Andrews will succeed third-year College student Adam Kimelman in the position.

The University Judiciary Committee reviewed case statistics from the past term as well as a breakdown of delivered admonitions during their general body meeting Sunday. The analysis found violations of nearly every standard was broken, and the committee administered 88 admonitions ranging from hours of community service and educational classes to expulsion. The committee also delivered support officer awards.

The University’s celebration of Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month began with celebrations of the cultures, traditions and histories of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States Wednesday with an opening ceremony featuring Virginia Del. Kathy Tran (D-Springfield).

Students, faculty and community members gathered in Minor Hall Tuesday night for a panel discussion entitled “Gun Rights and Responsibilities: How to Move Forward.” The panel was co-sponsored by the University Center for Politics and Converge U.Va. with the goal of bringing together a variety of viewpoints to discuss a path forward on gun control and gun rights.

Joan Lee, a third-year College student and Meriwether Lewis fellow, has been named Senior Resident of the Lawn for the upcoming 2018-19 academic year. She has served as a Resident Advisor in Brown College for the last two years and is an intern at the Multicultural Student Center. She is also a member of the Asian Student Union and Minority Rights Coalition. Lee was chosen for the position Wednesday, about a month after regular Lawn room acceptances were released.

The University Judiciary Committee met Sunday to hear a presentation from the University Board of Elections chair on the upcoming University-wide elections. Students will have the opportunity to vote on six referenda proposed by the Student Council, Honor Committee and UBE. UJC will not have any referenda up for consideration in this year’s election.

In a recently released University report, the anonymous Just Report It system, run by the Office of the Dean of Students, saw a decrease in the number of reported cases of bias, discrimination, hazing and sexual and gender-based violence on Grounds in the fall 2017 semester compared to each of the previous two semesters.

The University Office of Undergraduate Admission released its early action offers for the Class of 2022 Thursday. The University’s early acceptance rate was 27.8 percent, with 5,994 offers of admission from a pool of 21,573 early action applicants — the most in the University’s history.
