As students, faculty and community members learned of the University’s decision to return for in-person instruction and activities, reactions included both excitement and frustration. Spurred by a recent spike in COVID-19 hospitalizations, students and student organizations question University testing availability and personal protective equipment provision — but many remain hopeful that as the impacts of omicron lessen, a sense of normalcy will prevail.

Jewish students on Grounds found a variety of ways to celebrate Hanukkah, which began Nov. 28 and lasted until Dec. 6. Largely led by the Brody Jewish Center, an organization dedicated to connecting and empowering Jewish students, the Hanukkah season has been enjoyed with a variety of events across Grounds with the goal of bringing together Jewish students and celebrating Jewish culture.

The Center for Politics premiered its 30-minute documentary “Common Grounds” Thursday evening in the Rotunda Dome Room. The film is a culmination of nine months of work by five Center for Politics interns and brings together student leaders from a wide spectrum of political ideologies to discuss their beliefs and work towards understanding one another.

The Office of the President hosted its second Dialogue Across Grounds event in Newcomb Ballroom Thursday at 12:30 p.m. to engage students with diverse perspectives in order to foster an inclusive community on Grounds. Guests at the event discussed inclusion on Grounds and what they can do to create inclusive spaces for others.

The University’s Faculty Senate met Thursday over Zoom to discuss an array of topics concerning academic well-being at the University. Senators discussed and voted on a number of topics, including moving away from the University’s online learning platform Collab, the faculty vaccine requirement, the Karsh Institute of Democracy and a new budget model that allows for better multi-year planning.
