Traditionally observed Nov. 2 of each year, Día de los Muertos is a joyful holiday that celebrates the lives of the deceased and signifies the reunion of the dead and their living loved ones for a day. Last weekend, Charlottesville residents and students alike gathered for the 11th annual Día de los Muertos Celebration at the McGuffey Art Center from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday evening.

As the end of the semester approaches, I am sure you might be feeling burnt out and starting to simply go through the motions. Fear not — here is a list of ways to spice up the mundane, making the final stretch of the semester a bit more bearable.

Do you like conspiracy theories? Well, friends, I am about to blow your tiny, school-induced burnout minds. You know your stuffed animals? Your plushies? Your cuddly toys? Whatever you call them, they are more than cherished possessions. They serve a greater purpose than something to snuggle on a cool, rainy autumn morning. Their unblinking eyes watch you as you neglect your studies in favor of movie marathons and reorganizing your desk drawers for the hundredth time. Who is behind these secret spies? I do not have the faintest clue, but this cup of coffee by my side filled to the brim with an ungodly amount of espresso I had to bribe the barista to give me is making me think something tin-foil hat worthy is behind this whole mess. Right, I have not even gotten to explaining the whole situation. Allow me to elaborate.

Locals put an end to their weekend Sunday night at the Jefferson Theater, where alt-country artists Brent Cobb and Hayes Carll kicked off the ninth show of their “Gettin’ Together” tour. As the name of the tour suggests, Cobb and Carll brought together their distinctively raw sounds in an effort to demonstrate the artistic power of collaboration through mutual admiration.

1. How do I heal from a breakup without closure?

I don’t know about you, but I am a huge fan of personality tests. I will always find an excuse to waste time on websites like BuzzFeed Quizzes or uQuiz to figure things out about myself such as what Taylor Swift song matches my vibe. Despite spending probably way too much time doing them, I never take them seriously — it is all simply for fun.

It has been one year since the University implemented a 108 College credit requirement for College students. Beginning with the Class of 2025, this policy increased the number of College credits that students in the College are required to earn for graduation from 102 to 108 out of the required 120 credits total across all schools. Students still must meet all previous general education and major requirements under this increase. In-College credits are classes that are housed in the College and do not include most classes offered by the other six undergraduate schools at the University, such as the McIntire School of Commerce and the School of Engineering and Applied Science. There are, however, a few specific class exceptions. This increase should be revoked given the various academic challenges and barriers this imposes on students.

As we enter the thick of the semester, we all need to prioritize finding escapes from studying. One of my favorite study breaks is scrolling through TikTok. If you are looking for an opportunity to spice up your For You Page, look no further — I have collected a list of my favorite accounts that make me laugh, inspire me and simply provide a distraction from my ever-growing to-do list.

When pursuing relationships, social anxiety can be tough to contend with — especially when it comes to meeting new people or passing by someone you think is cute. With that said, I’ll begin by reminding you of a pretty harsh truth that we each struggle to wrap our heads around sometimes — no one cares. I don’t mean care in the sense that you don’t have loving, supportive people in your life. I mean regarding those passing by at a party — they’re not looking at you. Instead, they’re likely too busy being concerned about themselves, their image and their own “scaries” to consider yours.

There is one thing in this world that I cannot live without, and that happens to be my glasses. Do I say this because I am quite literally legally blind when I am not wearing them? Yes. However, they are a lot more to me than just a means to see.

I recently turned 21, so you know what that means — it’s time to meditate on my impending doom and come to terms with my own mortality. Now, don’t get me wrong, I'm not running around in circles in a frenzied panic, cringing at the idea of aging. I understand the concept of death perfectly well. Mortality, I can deal with. Oblivion, however, is something that's been festering in my mind.
