A year after winning the Belk Bowl, the Virginia football team has its sights set on even bigger goals in 2019. Returning much of a defense that finished third in the ACC last year in points allowed per game along with star senior quarterback Bryce Perkins, the Cavaliers are pegged as the favorite to win the ACC Coastal. That said, the road to winning the Coastal — which includes the classic rivalry game against Virginia Tech — will be anything but easy. “Earned, not given” is Virginia’s mantra under Coach Bronco Mendenhall, and it stays true in 2019, regardless of where the media picks the Cavaliers to finish before the season begins.

Two years ago, Heather Heyer was killed when a car plowed through a crowd of counter protesters at the white supremacist ‘Unite the Right’ rally in Charlottesville. To honor Heyer’s life and her dedication to promoting equal rights among all people, Virginia basketball alumni have came together to raise money for the Heather Heyer Foundation, which gives scholarships to young activists.

No. 1 seed Virginia has finally done it. After years of coming up short, Coach Tony Bennett and the Cavaliers (33-3) are headed to the elusive Final Four in Minneapolis, Minn., this weekend. Virginia did it in dramatic fashion, edging out No. 12 seed Oregon in a defensive battle in the Sweet Sixteen before taking down No. 3 seed Purdue in overtime Saturday night to cut down the nets in Louisville, Ky.

No. 1 seed Virginia is going to the Final Four. Purdue junior guard Carsen Edwards scored 42 points, but it was not enough for the Boilermakers as Virginia beat Purdue 80-75 in overtime Saturday night.

After facing a brief scare against No. 16 seed Gardner-Webb in the first round and avoiding upset, the Cavaliers (31-3, 16-2 ACC) eased past No. 9 seed Oklahoma Sunday night en route to their first Sweet Sixteen berth since 2016. They are headed to Louisville, Ky., Thursday to hopefully win the South Regional and advance to the Final Four.

No. 1 seed Virginia beat No. 9 seed Oklahoma 63-51 Sunday night at the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, S.C., to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. It is Virginia’s first berth in the Sweet Sixteen since the 2015-16 season.

It’s finally here. A year after a historic loss to No. 16 seed UMBC, Virginia is back for redemption in the NCAA Tournament. On Selection Sunday, the Cavaliers were named a No. 1 seed for the second consecutive year, and they head the South region. The South regional semifinals and finals will be played in Louisville, Ky., but to get to the Sweet Sixteen, the Cavaliers will start off play in Columbia, S.C., where the road to their first Final Four appearance since 1984 starts.
