The latest addition to a series of remakes and repurposes has arrived with “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” The Amazon Prime Video series is loosely based on the 2005 film of the same title starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, but what it lacks in pop culture notoriety it makes up for in a strong premise and stronger cast.

In a close 66-65 victory, Virginia men’s basketball barely scraped by a talented Clemson squad. Leading by as many as 12 points early in the second half, foul trouble and poor free throw shooting nearly handed the Tigers (14-7, 4-6 ACC) the win. Clemson, ranked as high as No. 13 in December, had not won back-to-back games in the new year and were coming off of a home victory over Louisville, while the Cavaliers (17-5, 8-3 ACC) had won five straight after their own midwinter slump.

Misleading and disingenuous, the recent guest column “We must expect more of our institutional leaders” consistently and intentionally mischaracterizes the Israel-Hamas war.

Coming off of a couple huge victories in the past couple weeks, Virginia women’s basketball looked to carry the momentum forward at Cassell Coliseum Thursday against archrival Virginia Tech. The Cavaliers (10-11, 2-8 ACC) were aided by strong performances from freshman guard Kymora Johnson and sophomore guard Paris Clark, however those were not enough to overcome the No. 17 Hokies (17-4, 8-2 ACC), who cruised to a 76-63 victory.

After seven years of hard work by advocates, the path to affordable housing in Charlottesville seemed clearer than ever before. Charlottesville’s new zoning ordinance which promised unprecedented change was set to go into effect this February after getting approved by the Charlottesville City Council last December. In essence, this ordinance proposed more multifamily and higher density housing in hopes that, with an increase in housing units, lower housing prices would follow. Many people were convinced that this was the right course of action. And then, another roadblock was presented — affluent homeowners in Charlottesville filed a lawsuit against the City in an effort to prevent the ordinance from becoming reality. While the foundations of this lawsuit may be legally justifiable, this lawsuit is ultimately riddled with false and silly pretenses, which imply a more sinister motive to undo years of progress towards affordable housing in Charlottesville.

After a 4-3 loss to TCU in the College World Series ended Virginia baseball’s 2023 season, the Cavaliers headed home from Omaha with mixed feelings. Virginia extended their home winning streak to 22 games in a sound win against Notre Dame Wednesday night. The Cavaliers (16-5, 7-3 ACC) started hot from the field, as graduate forward Jake Groves matched the Fighting Irish (7-14, 2-8 ACC) in total three pointers — doing so with his five three pointers in the first half of play. Wednesday night’s outcome is a reverse of the teams’ earlier matchup this season in South Bend, Ind. Notre Dame won that first contest 76-54. Earning wins in multiple conference rematches bodes well for a young and resilient Virginia squad, as the team is heating up at the perfect time with their 65-53 victory against the Fighting Irish.
