No. 6 Cavaliers visit Orange, Carrier Dome

The No. 6 Virginia men’s lacrosse team will head to Syracuse, N.Y. to take on the No. 18 Orange in the Carrier Dome Friday evening in the team’s first true road test and first matchup against a ranked opponent this season.

Though the rain necessitated a move from the familiar confines of Klöckner Stadium to the University Hall Turf Field, the No. 6 Virginia men’s lacrosse team came away with an 18-11 victory against Mount St. Mary’s Tuesday evening to remain undefeated.

The No. 6 Virginia men’s lacrosse team travels to Long Island, N.Y. to face Stony Brook Saturday as it seeks its third consecutive victory to remain undefeated on the season . After their recent success at home against Drexel in the season opener and Virginia Military Institute Tuesday, the Cavaliers look to continue their winning streak in their first game away from Klöckner Stadium.

Virginia pummels VMI, 18-4

The No. 6 Virginia men’s lacrosse team dismantled Virginia Military Institute Tuesday night at Klöckner Stadium, dominating throughout an 18-4 triumph, while also playing its entire active roster. “Part of the opportunity here with a game like this is for guys to get out there,” Virginia coach Dom Starsia said.

Virginia opens season with overtime win

For the sixth consecutive year No. 7 Virginia opened up the season by beating Drexel. However, the 13th overall meeting between the two teams, which Virginia won 12-11, was the first to be decided by overtime.

Virginia storms this season's top-10 rankings

All four ACC men’s lacrosse teams secured top-10 rankings in both major 2013 preseason polls released in the last several days — the USILA Coaches’ Poll and Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll. Maryland, the national runner-up in 2011 and 2012, is the highest ranked of the ACC squad.

Starsia reveals impressive recruiting class

Virginia coach Dom Starsia revealed his official 2013-14 recruiting class earlier this week. Several marquee names highlight the list of 10 recruits, including Matt Barrett, Inside Lacrosse’s top-rated rising senior goaltender, and Matt Emery, the younger brother of junior All-American Rob Emery.

Title defense falls short

After surviving a 6-5 thriller against Princeton in the first round, the Virginia men’s lacrosse team unceremoniously exited May’s NCAA men’s lacrosse playoffs with a 12-10 quarterfinal loss to Notre Dame in Chester, Pa. The loss snuffed out the Cavaliers’ gambit to become the first repeat men’s lacrosse national champions since Syracuse won back-to-back titles in 2008 and 2009.
