Advancement Committee discusses $2.5 million gift, Cavalier Opportunity Fund

Fundraising for the University in 2022 has surpassed that of 2021 with total commitments to the University, including current gifts and pledged future gifts, reaching a total of $322 million.

The presentation acknowledged the trend of increasing digital adoption as a result of COVID-19.

Board of Visitors approves request for $75 million budget amendment

The Finance Committee voted Friday morning in favor of budget amendments that call for an additional $75 million.

The Finance Working Group reported to committee that the operating income for the second quarter of fiscal year 2022 was favorable to the six months ending at the end of the 2021 calendar year, with an operating income of $47.7 million.

Health System Board reviews financials, Committee on College at Wise discusses student retention

The Health System Board is the governing board for both the University’s Medical Center and the Transitional Care Hospital.

Since the Board approved the 2021 Capital Plan, three projects are in need of design authorization for the 2022 Capital Plan — a new Center for the Arts, additions to the School of Architecture Center for Design and a new School of Engineering building.

Buildings and Grounds committee renames Maury Hall, discusses revisions to the 2022 Major Capital Plan

The Buildings and Grounds committee will be given the opportunity to vote on any revisions to the capital plan and capital projects during the next meeting of the Board of Visitors in June.

Hospitalization rates have remained relatively constant over the last two weeks — the seven-day average for new hospitalizations was 12.14 on Feb. 23 and was 11.71 as of Thursday.

University community sees COVID-19 cases plunge but hospitalization rates stall as students head home for spring break

On Jan. 11, at the peak of the wave of cases caused by the Omicron variant, the seven-day average was 74.43 new cases per day — the seven-day case average has fallen 87.7 percent since that high.

The highest turnout was in the Honor referendum — 6,010 students or 23.8 percent voted on the referendum.

Cain wins presidential race with 73.4 percent of vote

The rest of Cain’s ticket was elected in unopposed races — third-year College students Jaden Evans and Riley Reynolds will serve as vice president for administration and vice president for organizations, respectively.

Student Council voted to pass SR22-04, a resolution denouncing the University’s lifting of certain indoor mask mandates and SR22-05, a resolution in support of the Honor referendum which would reform the University’s single sanction policy, at its meeting Tuesday night.

SR22-04 criticized the University’s recent decision to lift certain mask mandates, as the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing.

The Faculty Senate is an elected body of 80 University professors, drawn proportionally from all of its schools, including Batten, McIntire, the College, Engineering and Nursing.

Inside the race for president of Fourth Year Trustees

This year’s race for Fourth-Year Trustee President is contested between two candidates, third-year College student Anisa Mohamed and Sophia Liao, current third-year class president and Commerce student.

Excluding Chambers, who is prohibited from voting, only 19 of 27 members were present at Sunday’s meeting. Fourteen attendees voted in favor of the proposal.

In response, Cain wrote that she has “never agreed with the sentiment that anyone should vote for [her]” solely because she is a Black student herself, particularly given that her opponent is also Black.

Allegations made in NAACP at U.Va. letter elicit responses from student leaders

The NAACP at U.Va. statement accused Cain of “inherently misleading” Black students, writing that they would not stand for “destructive behaviors” or Cain’s alleged “weaponization of Black students’ concerns.”

After the University announced the proposed switch to Office 365, students circulated a petition against the change which garnered roughly 5,500 signatures.
