Jones severely injured in accident

Virginia freshman cornerback Randy Jones, a redshirt this season, was critically injured in a car accident that occurred Sunday night near Stoneville, N.C., according to the Greensboro News & Record. Jones' oldest brother, Travis Wilson, 22, reportedly was driving and has been charged with three counts of felony death by motor vehicle and driving while impaired.

The Virginia men's tennis team was in action this past weekend in the 2001 East Coast Championship collegiate tournament held in Norfolk this weekend. Of the seven Virginia singles players to reach the quarterfinals, Stephen Nolen, Jason Romesburg, Jay Curtis and Mark Montandon advanced to the semifinals in their draws.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - I've been rehearsing these words all weekend, ever since Terp running back Bruce Perry broke through Virginia's defensive line to drive a 38-21 stake through the Cavaliers' hearts, and it is still hard to say them: Maryland owns first place in the ACC. Ugh.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - On Saturday, No. 25 Maryland proved to the Virginia football team that slow and steady would win the race to be the king of the ACC mountain. The Terrapins (5-0, 3-0 ACC) marched past the Cavaliers (3-2, 2-1) and into first place in the conference, 41-21, behind a stifling defense and an efficient offense.

Cavaliers defeat VCU, extend win streak

The No. 4 Virginia men's soccer team improved its win streak to eight games and shutout streak to six games Saturday night when it knocked off VCU, 1-0, at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond. The win over VCU propelled Virginia (9-0-1) to a 18-0-1 all-time record over the Rams (4-4-1). Virginia has won every game since Sept.

Following a month of matches on the road, the Virginia volleyball team returns to its home court this weekend to host ACC rivals Wake Forest and Duke at University Hall. The Cavaliers (5-6, 1-3 ACC) have played seven away matches since their 3-1 home victory over Virginia Tech on Sept.
