No. 7 Virginia baseball clinched a berth to the College World Series over the weekend, marking its sixth appearance in Omaha, Neb. in program history. While the Cavaliers (50-13, 19-11 ACC) dominated the competition for most of the season, the path to compete for a national championship was not always certain. What at one point looked like a disappointing repeat of the 2022 season where Virginia could not overcome late season struggles and fell in the Regional round turned into exhilaration at Disharoon Park Sunday afternoon.

The Virginia women’s basketball team took a sizable step forward in year one under Coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton. The Cavaliers began their 2022-23 campaign with a 12-0 record, and in late December found themselves ranked in the USA Today Coaches poll for the first time since 2011.

Fresh off its three-game sweep of Florida State, the No. 5 Virginia baseball team cruised to an 8-1 win over Old Dominion Tuesday afternoon at Disharoon Park. The matchup between the Cavaliers (23-2, 7-2 ACC) and the Monarchs (20-5, 5-1 Sun Belt) featured two of the nation’s premier offenses, with both squads among the top-ten run scorers in the nation. It was Virginia’s pitching, however, that proved to be the difference as the Cavaliers improved to 17-0 at home this season.

The regular season came to an end for the Virginia women’s basketball team Sunday inside the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Fla., as they fell to Miami 85-74. The Cavaliers (15-14, 4-14 ACC) put up a valiant effort despite dressing only six players for their matchup with the Hurricanes (18-11, 11-7 ACC). The loss, nonetheless, marks Virginia’s 10th in their final 11 games, a disappointing end to a season that began with such promise.

The Virginia volleyball team finished off their four-game homestand with a pair of conference matches against No. 2 Louisville and Notre Dame over the weekend. After falling to the highly ranked Cardinals (18-2, 9-1 ACC) in straight sets Friday, the Cavaliers (10-11, 2-8 ACC) rebounded to earn their second conference victory of the season Sunday over the Fighting Irish (9-11, 4-6 ACC), winning 3-0.

The Virginia volleyball team traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio Friday to participate in the Xavier Tournament, their second non-conference event of the season. Inside of Xavier’s Cintas Center, the Cavaliers (5-1, 0-0 ACC) had a very successful weekend, finishing with a tournament-best 3-0 record.

Virginia volleyball began its regular season schedule by taking part in the Gators Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. on Friday and Saturday. The Cavaliers (2-1, 0-0 ACC) earned victories in their first two matches against East Tennessee State and North Florida, respectively, before falling to No. 15 Florida in their final match of the event Saturday evening.
