Students had varied responses to the University’s recent changes in COVID-19 policy – including lifting the weekly testing requirement for unvaccinated students, phasing out saliva testing for asymptomatic students and implementing a mask-optional policy for classrooms. While some students and professors felt that the decision was justified given the recent decline in COVID-19 cases, others feared a resurgence in cases.

Students gathered in Alumni Hall Tuesday to hear from 11 of the University’s most ambitious stand-up comics. The prize included one of three $4,000 awards given by the William W. W. Knight and Beverley Randolph Knight Scholarship. The annual competition, dubbed “Comedy Knight,” included live performances from students as well as the announcement of two other winners, one for a comedic film project and the other for a humorous essay, who both submitted their entries in advance.

The Faculty Senate gathered virtually Tuesday for its monthly meeting, during which members of the Senate reviewed candidates for its upcoming elections, heard statements from University President Jim Ryan and incoming Provost Ian Baucom and voted to draft a public statement reaffirming the University’s practice of full academic freedom in regards to recent debates over critical race theory.
