While many popular jewelry brands focus primarily on aesthetics, second-year Darden student Liana Lei had a larger scope in mind when she co-founded feminist jewelry brand LA FOI Jewelry alongside fellow co-founders Eko Liu and Annie Shen. In the short time that has passed since its creation in August of 2021, the brand has already grown to feature and successfully sell six different jewelry collections, all with the aim of promoting affordable fashion, sustainability and female empowerment.

An exhibition titled “Nature, Us and the Future — A Group Exhibition with Female Perspectives” of over 60 artworks by six artists — Christen Yates, Judith Ely, Karen Rosasco, Lesli Devito, Phyllis Koch-Sheras and Susan Patrick — is currently on display at the Guild Gallery until April 15 for the public to view. The pieces range from abstract pieces to realistic paintings to interactive activities, but all come together to express the artists’ common love for nature, in whatever form it may be.

Adam McKay's satirical sci-fi movie, "Don’t Look Up," features an almost overwhelmingly star-studded cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Rob Morgan, Mark Rylance, Cate Blanchett and Timothée Chalamet amongst others — even including pop singer Ariana Grande and rapper Kid Cudi.

The Board of Visitors will hold an educational workshop on proposed undergraduate tuition and fee increases followed by a public comment session in the Ern Commons Building at 3 p.m. Thursday. Students and community members were able to register for online comment until Wednesday at 5 p.m. and in-person comments will be accommodated on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The University received a record total of 3,442 early decision applications and 31,152 early action applications for the Class of 2026, a 17 percent increase in early decision applications and a seven percent increase in early action applications compared to last year. This increase held across nearly all schools and demographics.

Students dressed in neon and glitter walked into the Jefferson Theatre Thursday anticipating an engaging show and walked out more than satisfied. With EDM events being a rare occurrence at the University, the Up & Up Festival — sponsored by Monster Energy — brought smoke and flashing lights to Grounds in front of a sold-out crowd.

Over the last year, many classes at the University have been forced into online synchronous formats, which is meant to replicate an in-person lecture with students and professors present on Zoom at the same time. However, defining what a synchronous class is has not been easy, causing the line between synchronicity and asynchronicity to be blurred for both professors and students.

Virgil Wood, author of the book “In Love We Still Trust: Lessons We Learned from Martin Luther King Jr., and Sr." reflected on racism, religion and his own experiences fighting for civil rights in an hour-long webinar held Thursday. During the discussion, Daniel Fairbanks, Utah Valley University biology professor and sculptor, created a clay sculpture of the Liberty Bell as a representation of Wood’s discussion on the importance of common voice — which King represented and led during the Civil Rights Movement.

The University’s Mutual Aid Fund, a collective formed by Student Council last spring to support students in need of financial stability through donations from the University community, has recently received an influx of requests for aid from students totaling over $12,000 since the start of the fall semester.

While detective Sherlock Holmes is a super-sleuth character whom audiences are all-too familiar with, his younger sister Enola Holmes is one whose name most people do not recognize. In the new Netflix original directed by Harry Bradbeer “Enola Holmes,” however, Sherlock, played by Henry Cavill, pales in comparison to Enola, who is portrayed by Millie Bobby Brown. Holmes dominates the screen with her charisma and stubborn determination, which allows her to reject conforming to society — a characteristic which drives the movie forward, and which one can’t help but find endearing in the more conservative setting of the film.
