ChatGPT has inextricably changed the landscape of artificial intelligence capabilities. This generative A.I. application developed by OpenAI can provide written content in response to any text-based query. For the University community, it affects students and professors alike as questions arise regarding how students may choose to utilize the software and if it will affect the integrity of their work. Opposing attitudes toward the software have risen from both sides of the classroom, ranging from excitement to unease.

Laughter and avid conversation echoed across the Rotunda Multipurpose Room this past Saturday when the Mixed Race Student Coalition hosted their own Young Alumni Reunion. From 3 to 5 p.m., students and alumni mingled amongst themselves — some chatted casually with old friends, while others excitedly conversed with new ones at tables covered in dark purple cloth under gold hanging streamers.

Through attending office-hours and sharing an occasional meal, students and professors both attempt to build relations with one another in order to build a more cohesive learning experience at the University. Students look to gain everything from a better understanding of the material to tangible, experienced-based career advice, while professors find enjoyment in and even learn from getting to know their students.

Africa Day opened its doors around 5 p.m. and welcomed guests until well past its planned conclusion of 9 p.m. Saturday night in Newcomb Ballroom. Over 300 people dressed their best for this showcase, one of the Organization of African Students’ most spectacular annual events.
