In the aftermath of this year’s NCAA conference realignment that saw both Stanford and California join the ACC, Virginia volleyball took a mid-week trip to the west coast to face off against its new conference foes. Both matchups marked only the second time in program history that Virginia had played against the No. 7 Cardinal (21-4, 13-3 ACC) and the Golden Bears (12-15, 4-11 ACC).

Virginia women’s soccer defended its status as a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament Friday in a comeback victory against Princeton at Klöckner Stadium. The 2-1 win was the Cavaliers’ (13-5-0, 5-5-0 ACC) first contest in over two weeks, and they displayed renewed strength in the midfield areas to knock the Tigers (14-5-0, 6-2-0 Ivy League) out of the national postseason.

There was simply no stopping junior guard Isaac McKneely Friday evening. Villanova looked on helplessly as he buried three-pointer after three-pointer. Some of them came with yards of separation. Others came on running, contested, twisting attempts.

No. 8 field hockey received a second chance at the postseason when the NCAA Field Hockey Committee gifted Virginia (13-4, 6-2 ACC) with an at-large bid, sending the Cavaliers to Evanston, Ill., where they faced off against No. 6 Michigan Friday. Virginia volleyball took on No. 7 Stanford out west in Stanford, Calif. Friday and was promptly defeated in all three sets. The Cavaliers (19-7, 9-6 ACC) had only met the Cardinal (20-4, 12-3 ACC) on the court once before — back in 2001 when Stanford handed Virginia a 3-0 defeat.

Tony Bennett wanted to call Jay Wright. As he teetered on the brink of his 16th season helming the Virginia men’s basketball program, he wanted advice from a like-minded contemporary. He wanted to see what Wright, the former Villanova coach who retired suddenly in 2022, had to say about whether it was worth it to continue coaching in the modern era of college basketball, one inextricably linked with Name, Image and Likeness.

Since squash became a varsity sport in 2017, the Cavaliers have been a force to be reckoned with on the college circuit — both the men’s team and women’s team are ranked sixth in this year’s preseason poll. Virginia men’s and women’s squash are set to kick off their season in a home matchup against Columbia, with its No. 8 ranked men’s team and No. 9 ranked women’s team Saturday at the McArthur Squash Center. Yet squash has not gained significant popularity in the eyes of Virginia fans, so a guide is in order for the Cavalier faithful. From basic rules to a preview of the schedule, this guide is all you will need to prepare to follow along with the upcoming season.

After rescuing its season with an incredible upset at No. 23 Pittsburgh Nov. 9, Virginia is just one win away from its first bowl game since 2019. It was not a pretty performance from the Cavaliers (5-4, 3-3 ACC), but the win is potentially season-altering — gauze for a program that had been bleeding out since October. That victory over the Panthers was Virginia’s second road win versus a ranked opponent in the Coach Tony Elliott era.

On the heels of a heartbreaking loss in the ACC quarterfinals to Syracuse, Virginia field hockey managed to snag an at-large bid during the selection show — staving off the end of the season a little longer. The Cavaliers (13–4, 6–2 ACC) are slated to face off against No. 10 Michigan Friday in Evanston, Ill. Should Virginia conquer the Wolverines (15-4, 5-3 Big Ten), it will almost certainly face No. 2 Northwestern, the host of the first two rounds. The road to a second consecutive Final Four appearance is arduous.

The Honor Committee met Sunday to discuss the implementation of a new sanctioning policy passed Oct. 23, which introduced a “pre-sanctioning” process and expanded the role of the Counsel for the Community in sanctioning decisions. The Committee debated the level of discretion that the Counsel should receive in considering sanctions, as opposed to strictly following training guidelines. Additionally, the Committee brainstormed ideas for fall semester “finals pushes” — support initiatives offered to students during final exams — including coffee tabs and energy drink handouts.

The University Judiciary Committee has already adjudicated 38 cases since its term began April 1. Violations of Standards 2 and 6 — threats to health and safety of students and violations of University policy, respectively — make up a large share of the cases, according to the UJC’s Executive Committee. The details of organizational cases will be made public in December with the release of the semesterly statistics report.
