Virginia traveled to Norman, Okla., Friday to face No. 10 Oklahoma in its second matchup of the season. The Cavaliers (1-1, 0-0 ACC) could not match the lengthy runs the Sooners (2-0, 0-0 SEC) had throughout the game and were defeated 95-51. The team's offense had a pedestrian performance, but horrendous defense left even more to be desired. Despite an ugly loss, facing a top-10 opponent this early in the season was a helpful litmus test for Coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton’s squad.

With under eight minutes remaining and his team holding a six-point lead, Ryan Dunn stood in the corner as his teammates ran a play drawn up by a multiple-time Coach of the Year. The Cavaliers won an exciting overtime battle at Wake Forest Friday, and Senior back Jans Croon was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year Monday. Election-denier, Jan. 6 attendee, Trump loyalist — these are all phrases to describe the current Republican Congressional candidate, John McGuire, in the district which encapsulates the University. Disturbingly, these phrases and the standards they connote have become something of a trend for Republican candidates in the University’s district, similarly defining our current Congressional Representative Bob Good. The qualities Good and McGuire hold — absolute loyalty to one political figure and a lack of support for the sanctity of elections — fail to meet even the lowest benchmark for what we ought to demand in our Republican political representatives. Such inadequate representation must not continue unabated.
