With Carter Mountain’s “Sunset Series” fading into a fond memory and the Charlottesville foliage turning gold, one Thursday ritual lingers in my mind — their apple cider donuts. My friends describe them as soft, delicately spiced and dusted with cinnamon-sugar. To many, they are the very essence of autumn in Charlottesville.

Through 15 games this season, Virginia field hockey has been a defensive powerhouse, but when it met Stanford for an ACC Tournament matchup Tuesday afternoon in Louisville, Ky., it was the offense that took center stage. The Cavaliers (15-1, 7-1 ACC) defeated the Cardinal (7-10, 2-6 ACC) 4-3 behind incredible performance from junior forward Emma Watchilla and several true freshmen.

After months of anticipation, the long-awaited Virginia’s women’s basketball season has arrived, and the campaign began with a resounding home victory over Morgan State. The Cavaliers (1-0, 0-0 ACC) beat the Bears (0-1, 0-0 MEAC) Tuesday by a score of 86-36 at John Paul Jones Arena.

Virginia women’s soccer began its quest for ACC glory in Tallahassee, Fla. Sunday, taking on Florida State in the quarterfinal of the conference tournament. Although both teams remained scoreless for the entirety of the game, the No. 5 seed Cavaliers (12-2-4, 6-2-2 ACC) kept their cool to defeat the No. 4 seed Seminoles (10-2-4, 6-2-2 ACC) 6-5 in penalty kicks.

The University Judiciary Committee has adjudicated 10 cases this semester and has 17 pending cases. Should the remaining 17 cases become adjudicated by the end of the Fall 2025 semester, this statistic would surpass last year’s Fall 2024 semester, in which 22 cases were adjudicated by the semester’s conclusion.

Virginia women’s basketball has yet to appear in the NCAA Tournament in its first three years under Coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton. In fact, it has been over 10 years since the Cavaliers even reached the ACC Championship game.

Exactly two weeks after winning his second professional title of 2025, sophomore Rafael Jódar took to the court Sunday in an effort to bring home his third. His opponent was the same — world No. 191 Martin Damm Jr., a towering lefty who Jódar beat in three sets in the Lincoln Challenger.

Virginia hosted two important ACC matches this weekend at the Aquatic & Fitness Center, losing to both Georgia Tech and Clemson. The Cavaliers (10-12, 3-9 ACC) extended their losing streak to four straight games, falling to the Yellow Jackets (12-9, 7-5 ACC) in five sets Friday. Then, Virginia struggled to keep up Sunday in what was expected to be an even match against the Tigers (14-10, 2-10 ACC), who were at the bottom of the ACC standings entering the match. However, the Cavaliers fell 3-1 to Clemson in a disappointing loss.

Virginia field hockey has more than proven its mettle this season, besting eight ranked teams — four of which were shutouts — prior to Friday’s match against No. 6 Wake Forest. Yet the Cavaliers (14-1, 7-1 ACC) somehow reached new heights with an incredible 5-3 victory over the Demon Deacons (15-3, 7-1 ACC), overcoming increasingly poor sportsmanship from their opponent to win not only the match but also the title of ACC Regular Season Co-Champions.

Just a day after Virginia captured a resounding 15-stroke victory at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate, the Cavaliers voyaged an hour south to take part in an event on hallowed ground at East Lake in Atlanta, home of the PGA Tour’s annual Tour Championship. The East Lake Cup brought four of golf’s perennial powerhouse programs together for a one-day individual stroke play event, followed by two days of team match play.
