Student Council voted to pass SR22-04, a resolution denouncing the University’s lifting of certain indoor mask mandates, and SR22-05, a resolution in support of the referendum that would reform the Honor Committee’s single-sanction policy, at its meeting Tuesday night. The representative body also heard executive updates on a variety of topics ranging from spring break transportation and support to the search for a new Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Student Council passed its spring budget during its general body meeting Tuesday in a 14-0 vote with one abstention. After three weeks of debate, deliberation and amendments, the final budget stands at $184,671.

As students, faculty and community members learned of the University’s decision to return for in-person instruction and activities, reactions included both excitement and frustration. Spurred by a recent spike in COVID-19 hospitalizations, students and student organizations question University testing availability and personal protective equipment provision — but many remain hopeful that as the impacts of omicron lessen, a sense of normalcy will prevail.

Republican Glenn Youngkin was elected Governor of Virginia on Election Night, beating out Democratic nominee Terry McAuliffe, who previously served as governor from 2013 to 2017. Incumbent Democrat Sally Hudson was also reelected to represent the 57th District in the Virginia House of Delegates and Democrats Juandiego Wade and Brian Pinkston were elected to serve on Charlottesville’s City Council.

The University is set to kick off its first in-person Global Week since 2019 this Saturday with events running until October 30. This week of activities will be a combination of in-person, virtual and hybrid events covering global happenings, conversations with those working on a global scale and opportunities to learn more about getting involved globally on Grounds.
