Charlottesville Police charged an Alexandria man for two assaults occurring early Sunday morning at the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity house.
James Allgood, 18, faces two counts of assault and battery after an incident that occurred earlier that night involving two female guests.
Neither of the two victims was injured seriously. "There was no injury indicated in the police report," Charlottesville Police Sgt. Richard Hudson said. However, "touching can be an assault," he said.
The 18- and 19-year old female victims, who are both second-year University students, declined to comment about the incident.
Charlottesville Magistrate Robert Hugges said Allgood, who is not a University student, was held on a $500 bond and released Sunday afternoon. An Oct. 19 court date has been set for the Charlottesville General District Court.
Pi Lambda Phi President Mike Duggan, a fourth-year in the College said Algood was not on the guest list for the party but was a friend of someone who was on the list. Duggan said his fraternity will take precautions in the future to make sure the fraternity does not allow non-invited guests into its parties in the future.
Aaron Laushway, assistant dean of students for fraternity and sorority life, said Pi Lambda Phi brothers aided authorities in apprehending the suspect. Duggan said four brothers went out and found where the suspect was staying and called the police.
"Once they realized that this was not someone in their house that they wanted, they acted appropriately," Laushway said.
"This should serve as a lesson to anyone who tries to assault a girl, whether it be on the dance floor or anywhere else. [Allgood] spent the night in jail and now has a court date," Duggan said. "Assault is something we won't stand for."
Laushway, who received a phone call at 4 a.m. Sunday about the assault, said Pi Lambda Phi members were "enormously cooperative."
"They are always liable for what goes on in their house, but when they realized this guy was doing bad things, they responded very well," Laushway said. "I am very gratified by the response of Pi Lambda Phi and city officials"
