Tuesday's article, "Committee asks Britt to speak at May graduation," incorrectly stated that Dr. L. D. Britt will be the keynote speaker at this year's graduation. Dr. Britt will actually be the keynote speaker at Valediction, which will be held on May 17, one day before final exercises.
Supposed bomber shuts down Washington, D.C. traffic for two hours
Shortly after 8 a.m. yesterday morning, a man driving a Budget Rent-A-Car stopped his vehicle at the corner of 12th Street and Independence Avenue and demanded to see the President. When refused, he told police that his car was full of explosives.
Police shut down traffic in the area surrounding the incident, causing massive traffic jams around the city and into Northern Virginia. Several buildings in the proximity of the truck were evacuated.
The threat turned out to be unfounded, and by 11 a.m. traffic flow had resumed. The man who made the treat was taken away in stretcher for psychiatric evaluation.
Murder spree leaves six dead in Metro area
Four people were shot to death in Washington, D.C. area yesterday and two others died in similar attacks in Prince George's County about two hours later.
Two of the victims in Washington were young women who were sitting in a van when the gunman opened fire at around 9:30 p.m.
About 30 minutes later, a second man was found dead about five miles from the scene.
