University administrator,"Chic" Moran dies

Charles E. "Chic" Moran Jr., former University administrator, historian and co-founder of Charlottesville's Quaker congregation, died Sunday at Martha Jefferson Hospital at the age of 89.

Moran co-founded the Charlottesville Friends Meeting in 1938.

Moran spent years aiding refugees and helping rebuild villages in Europe. He also led the Human Relations Council, a Charlottesville human rights organization.

A son and grandson of University administrators, and a University alumnus himself, Moran served as the director of the University's printing office and as an oral historian for the University.

There will be a memorial service at the University Chapel at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Morehouse suspends student government for homophobia discussion

The Morehouse College administration suspended all activities of the Student Government Association for several days last week in the wake of an impromptu discussion of campus homophobia.

Morehouse is an all-male, private, historically black college in Atlanta. Gay groups on campus have interpreted a recent assault as motivated by anti-gay sentiments.

On Nov. 3, sophomore Aaron Price beat Junior Gregory Love with a baseball bat in the shower. Love says he is not gay.

Price was expelled and charged with aggravated assault and battery.

On Nov. 11, a weekly SGA forum turned to the topic of homophobia on campus.Administrators soon imposed a moratorium on SGA activities, saying the meeting had not been sufficiently planned.They lifted the ban Nov. 15.
