Long-awaited fifth Harry Potter book to be released in June, publisher says
After a two year stint on the big screen, Harry Potter will return to print this summer with the fifth installment of the seven-part series, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix."
Mr. Potter's publisher, Scholastic, announced yesterday that publication for the book will begin worldwide June 21, 2003. The newest installment in the series weighs in at 255,000 words -- a solid 50,000 words more than the fourth book, which ran over 700 pages.
Despite a sea of speculation, clues into the plot of "Order of the Phoenix" are few, though Scholastic has hinted that Dumbledore will reveal an essential secret about Harry's past.
The fifth installment resumes at the beginning of Harry's fifth year at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Potter, who turned 11 in the inaugural volume of the series, will turn 15 in the fifth book.
At the climax of the fourth book, which was published in the summer of 2000, Harry's arch-nemesis Lord Voldemort returned to power with the help of his devoted servant Peter Pettigrew, who spend years disguised as a pet rat.
Meanwhile, Harry competed in the increasingly dangerous Tri-Wizard Tournament, which Voldemort manipulated in order to capture Harry, who played a necessary role in his ressurection.
Correction
The sidebar to yesterday's article, "Student dies in murder-suicide," incorrectly stated that students should call the University's Sexual Assault Resource Agency in emergency situations. The correct agency is the Shelter for Help in Emergency at 293-8509. SHE is not affiliated with the University.
Also, friends of Long's who served as pallbearers at her funeral were not sorority sisters but members of the Sigma Phi Society.
