Lundy receives intimidating calls

Student Council Presidential candidate Daisy Lundy filed a police report Monday after receiving obscene phone calls in her room Sunday night and early Monday morning.

"The filed report stated that Lundy was receiving calls between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. Sunday," University Police Sgt.Melissa Fielding said. "The case is active and under investigation."

Lundy allegedly has received multiple phone calls from an unknown source. The calls are coming from an outside phone line, which makes it difficult determine who is making the calls.

"It's hard to pen down who could have made these phone calls," said Ryan McCarthy, Coalition Chair and a member of Lundy's campaign.

"The first few calls were hang-ups and breathing in the phone," Lundy said. "One of the phone calls specifically mentioned the run-off and used explicit language."

Lundy says she continues to receive calls.

"I received a call today as well," Lundy said yesterday.

As a precaution, Lundy no longer sleeps in her own room, citing the phone calls and "anti-Daisy" flyers as her reasons for sleeping elsewhere.

"Because of the way the phone system is set up, it is easy to find out where someone lives," she said.

McCarthy said he believes the phone calls are not serious threats, but their purpose is to distract Lundy from the race.

"I think it's obviously an intimidation tactic," McCarthy said. "It's a mechanism to divert her attention from her campaign; to make her lose focus."

Lundy says she plans to continue her run for Council president despite the threatening phone calls.

"It's intimidating, but it's not going to stop me from doing what I feel passionately about doing," Lundy said.
