Fundraising has begun for Lewis and Clark Exploratory Center
Following the recent celebration of the Lewis and Clark expedition bicentennial, the Lewis and Clark Exploratory Center has begun its annual fund raising for next year. The Charlottesville based center is a nonprofit charitable educational organization.
The Center already has collected nearly $100,000. Supplies and equipment also have been donated, but have not yet been counted.
The Center hopes to raise $400,000 for the staff and the center's layout.
Land also was donated to the center. The land was the birth place of George Rogers Clark, the brother of William Clark.
The center's mission is to create a simulation of the Lewis and Clark expedition without copying the Lewis and Clark wing at Monticello's forthcoming visitor's center.
Library video is a hit
In order to facilitate the usage of the University's many libraries for new students, University administrators and library personnel hired students to create a humorous, yet informative video on the usage of the libraries.
Out of 50 applicants, Jonathan and Joel Iverson were selected to head the project.
The Iverson brothers hired five other students to write the script, run the camera, record sound and handle lighting duties.
The video depicts a new student who becomes familiar with the library, but who always is one step behind an attractive female student.
The video has been met with overwhelming success. Most recently, Apple Computers featured a story about the video on their Web site under "Profiles in Success."
University faculty and students alike say they think the video is informative and entertaining.
"I was told the administration is placing it in the Special Collections Library," said fourth-year College student Lashá Winn, one of the five students hired to work on the video.
