Following elections held during the Honor Committee annual retreat last weekend, the Committee announced that third-year College student Carey Mignerey will be chair for the upcoming year.
"We're looking forward to engaging students this year. We've got a lot of positive initiatives," Mignerey said. "We're looking forward to a productive year."
Two returning Honor Committee representatives will join Mignerey on the new executive committee. Third-year Commerce student Brad Robinson will return to his position as vice-chair for trials and third-year Architecture student Sarah Snider will take over as vice-chair for education.
Completing the elected executive committee are third-year Commerce student Logan Moncrief as vice-chair for investigations and second-year Law student Tom Bednar as vice-chair for services.
"This committee has a tremendous amount of experience," Mignerey said.
Outgoing Chair Chris Smith agreed.
"I think we've got an extremely strong new executive committee," he said. "Seeing this, I am extremely optimistic about the future of the Honor Committee."
The new executive committee members said they have big goals for the next year.
"We're going to work on diversity issues, focus on student concerns and make education a top priority for the Honor Committee," Mignerey said.
Robinson stressed the importance of diversity efforts in all aspects of the committee.
"We're thinking about not only recruitment of a diverse officer pool, but also retention as they feel more comfortable in the system," he said.
Snider said she plans to make progress with the recurring issue of Honor education.
"We're going to set extremely specific goals," she said.
Moncrief included faculty outreach as another important initiative for the upcoming year.
"Building working relationships with the faculty and administration is central to the success of the Honor Committee," he said.
Honor Committee representatives elected by the student body last month selected the executive committee out of their ranks after a weekend of informational lectures and discussions at a mountain retreat.
The 2003-2004 Honor Committee takes office April 7.
"We have a great committee," Moncrief said. "We're really excited for the upcoming year."
