Though most people might associate school buses with bright yellow vehicles transporting rosy-cheeked youngsters to and from elementary school, buses also play a critical role in getting rosy-cheeked college students to and from class.
Schools all over the country use bus services as part of their day-to-day operations, and as a result must hire drivers to keep the wheels on the buses going round and round.
Different universities have different balances between student and non-student drivers, and also widely disparate pay scales for their drivers.
Stanford University, for example, contracts out its busing operation to a private company.
Stanford Transportation Programs Manager, Kevin Mathy, said the university is planning to purchase the buses from the company by next fall in order to be able to switch busing companies more easily.
