U.S. arrests Al-Qaida agent in Pakistan yesterday

Yassir al-Jaziri was on America's wanted list as a key terrorist and said to be a key subordinate of Osama Bin Laden. He allegedly is in charge of communication among al-Quaida operatives.

Al Jaziri was arrested yesterday near Lahore, Pakistan.

U.S intelligence assisted in apprehending al-Jaziri, but U.S. officers did not participate in his physical capture.

Al-Jaziri first was connected to terrorism in 1998, when his name was mentioned by an al-Quida informant in connection to the East Africa Embassy bombings.

Al-Jaziri is considered an important al-Qaida leader, and computer disks, compact discs and sensitive documents reportedly were found in his home.

Al-Jaziri's name also was brought up last month at a court hearing for Ahmed Javed Khawaja, an American doctor detained by police for connections to al-Qaida.
