City to commence Earth Week events at Bog Garden this afternoon

The City of Charlottesville will kick off a five-day celebration of Earth Week in the Bog Garden of Washington Park today at 1 p.m.

Several University students already have begun weeding the garden in preparation for the event, but more weeding still needs to be done around the sycamore tree. Also, volunteers will be asked to rake leaves and place mulch because plants are starting to emerge.

Student Environmental Action is sponsoring a lecture today on environmental literature with Michael Lundblad, a Brown College fellow, in conjunction with Earth Week.

Monday there will be a panel discussion on the subjects of environmental science, policy and justice with University professors and graduate students. Tuesday, there will be a fair with speakers from local businesses and environmental organizations such as Rebecca's Natural Foods, The Nature Conservancy, TradeLocal and the Institute for Environmental Negotiation.
