Omicron Delta Kappa honors University faculty and students

Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society, initiated into its ranks more than 60 University students and two members of the faculty in a ceremony at the Rotunda March 31.

During the event several awards were handed out to students, faculty and staff.

The Alton L. Taylor Service Award was given to Vicki Coleman, Director of Clemons Library, for going above and beyond the call of duty in her service to others.

The Virginia Circle ODK Staff Award honored Dana Hannum-Rivera for her outstanding service as assistant to the director in the University's Community Relations Office.

Linda K. Bunker, Education prof. and director of motor learning, was presented the Arthur F. Stocker Award in recognition of her devotion to students and perseverance in University leadership.

Second-year College student Meghan E. Sullivan was awarded the Edgar F. Shannon, Jr. Scholarship Award for demonstrating leadership and distinguished service to the University community.

The University’s Orientation and Transition programs are vital to supporting first year and transfer students throughout their entire transition to college. But much of their work goes into planning summer orientation sessions. Funlola Fagbohun, associate director of the first year experience, describes her experience working with OTP and how she strives to create a welcoming environment for first-years during orientation and beyond. Along with her role as associate director, summer Orientation leaders and OTP staff work continually to provide a safe and memorable experience for incoming students.
