Richmond stops yearbook publishing

Following this year's edition, the University of Richmond will no longer publish a yearbook, The Web, after over 100 years of publication.

The university's board of publications voted 9-1 to end the publication. Yearbook editors say the book lacks quality and readers, with most students not even knowing it exists.

Some students attribute the book's decline to its lack of undergraduate pictures. Before online registration at the university, students used to have their picture taken in order to complete the registration process in the school's gym.

The yearbook's adviser said that yearbooks don't hold the same place in students' lives as they used to in this age of e-mail and digital photos.

According to the school's archivist, members of the Richmond community will come to regret their discarding of the yearbook when there is little documentation of their time at the university.
