Former Virginia Lt. Gov. and Rector of the University Board of Visitors Fred G. Pollard died Monday. The 85-year-old Pollard was vacationing in Fishers Island, N.Y. when he suffered a heart attack Sunday.
Pollard received his undergraduate degree from the University in 1940 and his law degree from the University Law School in 1942. He was appointed to the Board of Visitors in 1980 and later served as the Board's rector for five years.
Pollard served as Lt. Gov. under Mills E. Godwin, Jr. from 1966-1970. Pollard was respected for his knowledge of fiscal policy and surveyed on the Economic Advisory Councils of two Virginia governors.
