Congress re-enacts Higher Education Act

In order to maintain greater accountability in the nation's universities, Congress recently re-enacted the Higher Education Act. The act requires universities to publish information such as graduation rates, alumni employment rates and retention rates.

The act's original intention to publish statistical collegiate information has lain dormant since 1965. The act lacks the power to punish a university with any punitive or financial measures but attempts to hold the institutions accountable.

Since the act's re-enactment, alumni services at universities across the U.S. have grown in an attempt to increase the number ofemployed graduates.

The University offers aservice through "UCAN," the University Career Assistance Network. The University also offers Hoostrak for both students and graduates in order to help with job searches.
