A bull broke free from a stockyard Saturday, Sept. 27 and roamed the streets of Charlottesville for 10 hours before being subdued the following morning.
The 1200-pound black angus escaped from the Charlottesville Livestock Market at 11 p.m. Saturday night. Lost by pursuers during the night, the bull was rediscovered at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon roaming the backyards of homes along East Market and Chesapeake Street.
After being corralled by responding police officers, the angus was shot twice in the back with a tranquilizer gun.
The bull was able to break free after a tousle with other cattle in the back of a trailer parked at the livestock market.
No one was hurt in pursuit of the fugitive animal.
