The University Health Service will offer free depression screenings today as part of National Depression screening day, an event that began in 1991.
Physicians will be screening students and residents 18 years or older between 9 and 11 a.m. in Suite 210 of the Northridge Building at 2955 Ivy Road.
Children and adolescents under 18 will be screened from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Child and Family Clinic, at 310 Old Ivy Way.
Event coordinator Madeleine Chandler said individuals who have had trouble sleeping and eating or generally felt uneasy for an extended period of time should stop by and get screened.
"It's unfortunate that half the people who suffer from depression don't get treated for it because there still is that stigma attached," Chandler said.
At the screenings tomorrow, physicians will not be diagnosing patients but only evaluating who may need further treatment.
Patients may seek help at the Medical Center or Student Health Center, Chandler said.
