University alumnus, wife contribute to expansion of Architecture School

Victor and Sono Elmaleh of New York will donate $1.2 million to the University as part of a wider effort to expand arts facilities around Grounds.

The Elmalehs' donation will complete funding for a new entry tower at the eastern end of Campbell Hall, which houses the School of Architecture. The new facility will be named in the couple's honor.

Victor Elmaleh, a 1942 graduate, is chair of the board of World-Wide Holdings Corp.

The donation was announced Friday at a University Board of Visitors meeting. The gift will qualify for a $1 million match from the Arts Grounds Challenge Fund, established in 2002 by an anonymous donor to promote support for the Arts Grounds project.

The project includes the addition of new arts facilities, as well as the expansion and renovation of existing arts facilities.

The entry tower at Campbell Hall is part of a larger effort to the entire building. Other additions include a new wing for faculty offices, a new administrative suite, a renovated cafe and improved teaching and shop spaces.

The School of Architecture currently seeks $8.5 million in donor support for these projects.
