A brown bear visited a couple of buildings on the Appalachian State University campus, located in Boone, N.C. Monday night, the Appalachian State University police department told the Associated Press Wednesday.
Police dispatchers first became aware of the bear when two students calling from their on-campus apartment building across from the school's Holmes Convocation Center told police the bear was knocking down a door at the center.
When the officers responded to the break-in, the bear already had broken through the center's glass door and was traversing a hallway in the building. However, upon the arrival of police the bear turned around and departed the building only to run across campus and collide headfirst with a campus office building.
ASU Police Chief Gunther Doerr told the Associated Press that the bear then bloodied its nose on one of the office building's windows and proceeded to depart the campus for its more natural habitat -- a nearby patch of woodlands.
Doerr said no one was injured in the incident, and noted that while the convocation center, which the bear first entered, has concession stands on its second floor, there was no other food in the building to attract its presence.
