National Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity Suspends University chapter

The Grand Council of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity has officially suspended the charter of its Alpha Mu chapter at the University of Virginia.

In an official statement released Wednesday, the Grand Council of Delta Sigma Phi said the suspension was because of "non-compliance with Fraternity Policy on Responsibility and Accountability."

Established at U.Va. in 1899, the Alpha Mu chapter was placed on temporary probation in early November as a result of hazing allegations. In Wednesday's statement, the Grand Council said, "The Fraternity will not tolerate actions such as hazing that are inconsistent with the high standards of conduct that Delta Sigma Phi has stood for since its founding."

The Council also stated that "the chapter will be reorganized immediately."

Delta Sigma Phi was also found guilty of a dirty rush violation earlier in the semester. Alpha Mu chapter President Russell Prestipino declined to comment on the suspension, directing questions to the national office.
