The University Medical Center's cardiology and heart surgery programs recently were recognized as being among the nation's best in 100 Top Hospitals: Cardiovascular Benchmarks for Success Study for 2003 produced by Solucient. Only 29 other major teaching hospitals received this designation.
Solucient said hospitals awarded with the designation this year "have displayed superior performance in the clinical management of cardiovascular disease through the efforts of their medical management teams, employees, medical staffs and administrative leadership," according to a University press release.
"Being recognized as one of the top 30 hospitals in the country for delivery of high quality and efficient care to heart patients is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of a team of physicians, nurses, technicians and support staff" said Dr. George Beller, chief of the U.Va. cardiology division, in a press release.
