Student Council Chief of Staff Noah Sullivan was elected Council president last night, receiving a total of 2,877 votes, 1,598 more than Greg Scanlon, his closest competitor.
Sullivan, a second year in the College, said he is excited about working with Council in the position of president.
"I want to think through some issues and follow through with our current initiatives," he said.
Sullivan added he was very pleased with his campaign.
"We worked very hard and had a lot of support from a lot of different groups," he said. "I do want to start sleeping some."
Second-place finisher Greg Scanlon, a third-year College student, said he enjoyed the election process.
"I mean, it's not bad for a first try," he said. "I had a good time, and I learned that I have some really great friends."
Scanlon said he thinks Sullivan will work well as president.
"Noah's going to do a great job," he said. "The way the system's set up, you have to be hell-bent on winning. I'm more disappointed the 'Greg is delightful' referendum didn't pass."
Former Council Rep. Curtis Ofori, who finished third with 998 votes, said he was satisfied with the way he ran his campaign.
"I campaigned the way I wanted to run it," he said. "I'm not disappointed."
Ofori added he will continue to work with Council in spite of the election results.
Council Religious Affairs Committee Chair Elliot Haspel, who finished fourth with 540 votes, said he was confident in Sullivan's abilities and will keep up with Council issues.
"Noah is a dedicated, hardworking person," he said. "I know that he will do a good job."
Haspel added he would start a Council watchdog group sometime next year.
Second-year College student Rebecca Keyworth was elected Council Vice President for Organizations, receiving 2,951 votes.
She currently is a member of Council's Appropriations Committee.
"I'm very excited," she said. "We had a great campaign."
Keyworth added she hopes to improve the way the Appropriations Committee interacts with organizations.
"I want to build a trust between committee members and organization leaders," Keyworth said.
Whitney Garrison, who covered Council as a news associate for The Cavalier Daily in 2003, won the position of Council Executive Vice President with 2,847 votes. Leah Eads, who began the elections process running for a position on the University Judiciary Committee but switched races, finished second.
Garrison, a third-year College student, said she is excited about working with both new and current Council members to make some changes in the way Council is run.
"I really look forward to streamlining what Council does and making the meetings more fun," she said.
First-Year Council President Greg Jackson was elected Council Vice President of Administration with 2,945 votes, defeating late-entry Alfred Griffin.
"I'm just excited, inspired and ready to go," he said. "I've been working hard for this, and I think the work paid off."
Jackson added he is excited about working with the new executive board and representative body.
The newly elected representatives from the College are Kelley Mulfinger, Darius Nabors, Jequeatta Upton, Elizabeth Chu and Daniel Hartzman.
The new Architecture representative is Alex Leitch, and Kevin Sproule will represent the Engineering School.
