Last week the Anthropology Department announced that it will offer a new minor, beginning in fall 2004. The minor, Global Culture and Commerce, will be open to all College students who have an interest in business and international development, said Richard Handler, associate Arts and Sciences dean for academic programs, GCC creator and program director.
The GCC minor will consist of six courses, and at least one language course beyond the 202 level as a co-requisite.
"We're serious about wanting people who want to know things about the world, and in order to know things about the world you have to speak more than one language," Handler said.
The pilot program will be available to 20 students per year. Admission will be determined by application, which are due April 20 for the fall semester.
Handler added that this will be an alternative to a business minor as it offers intellectual and critical courses about the global economy.
