The General Assembly approved many of Gov. Mark R. Warner's amendments Wednesday but rejected amendments to bills on controversial issues such as civil unions and feticide at its one-day veto override session.
Virginia legislators rejected Warner's amendment to a U.S. 29 bypass bill, which called for the expiration of the current bypass plan if an alternative plan is formed and determined to better fulfill the Commonwealth's transportation needs.
Legislators opposed Warner's amendment because the current bypass plan has already earned support from the communities affected, including Charlottesville, Sen. Stephen D. Newman, R-Lynchburg, told the Daily Progress.
If Warner chooses to kill the bill supported by legislators, they are likely to resubmit it next year, Newman said.
Another Warner amendment legislators rejected is a measure that would make it easier for parents without a college-level education to home school their high school-aged children.
